Would-be burglars target businesses in Hawick

Police area appealing for witnesses following a spate of attempted break-ins to business premises in Hawick.

Would-be burglars attempted to break into a number of premises in the town last week.

Businesses in O’Connell Street, Howegate and in the High Street were targeted between Friday, August 10 and Wednesday, August 15.

Although nothing was stolen, damage was caused to the doors at each property when attempts were made to enter the premises.

Officers believe the incidents are linked.

Investigations are ongoing, and police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

Deputy local area commander, Inspector Tony Hodges, said: “These attempted break-ins have caused damage to properties and we are eager to trace those responsible as soon as possible.

“I would ask anyone who was in any of these areas between the 10th and 15th August, and who saw anything suspicious, to get in touch with us at their earliest convenience.”

Those with information can contact officers at Galashiels’ Criminal Investigation Department on 101, quoting incident number 0742 of 15th August.
