What’s in a name? It’s Martha’s £85,000 donation

A SCHOOL kitchen currently being built in Malawi is to be named in honour of the nine-year-old Scots blogger who has now raised £85,000 for charity.

Martha Payne started the NeverSeconds blog six weeks ago, posting pictures and opinions about her school lunches in daily updates to raise money for charity Mary’s Meals.

The website, which Argyll and Bute Council banned, before overturning its ruling after a public outcry, has received nearly six million views and has won the support of celebrity chefs Jamie Oliver and Nick Nairn.

Lochgilphead Primary School pupil Martha has now far surpassed her £7,000 fundraising target, with her total rocketing from £3,000 to £85,000 in just four days.

Martha who has chosen to name the kitchen Friends of NeverSeconds, said: “It’s really good because it can feed lots of children for a long time. Mary’s Meals can achieve so much.”
