Video: bus driver takes parking warden for a drive

SOME people will go to great lengths to avoid paying a fine, but a bus driver in Vietnam just about takes the biscuit after driving for almost a kilometre with a traffic warden clinging to his windscreen wipers as he tried to evade a ticket.

Nguyen Manh Phan, who works for the traffic police in Hanoi, ordered the driver of the 39-seat bus to pull over on Wednesday. The driver apparently refused to show his paperwork and drove off – but not before Mr Phan jumped on to the front of the vehicle.

In a video posted online, Mr Phan can be heard calling for passers-by to call the police, as the bus drives along at about 30mph.

The driver, Phung Hong Phuong, eventually pulled over after being chased by police and residents. He was arrested for allegedly acting against public officials, an offence that carries a maximum three-year jail sentence. He previously served nearly four years for a fatal road accident, and was released in 2010.
