UN call to aid Libyan regime

A UNITED NATIONS expert panel has called for the international community to help Libya’s interim government prevent violent attacks by armed groups.

The Commission of Inquiry on Libya reported to the UN Human Rights Council that forces loyal to the deceased Libyan leader Colonel Muammar al-Gaddafi and rebel forces both committed war crimes during the uprising which led to his overthrow last year. Panel chairman Philippe Kirsch, a Canadian, said “some of these attacks” by former rebels, were continuing.
