Twitter to launch its own music app

Twitter looks set to launch its own music service and challenge Spotify, as internet rumours surrounding the social network’s plans appear to be true.

The plans appear to involve an app designed to help introduce users to new music, after the micro-blogging site acquired We Are Hunted late last year - a service geared towards finding new listening trends.

The new Twitter service looks set to be powered in part by Soundcloud, which lets users stream tunes and see what their friends are listening to or uploading.

Twitter has already proved to be a powerful weapon for musicians, with Justin Bieber riding the wave which came with the rise of the service several years ago, and it is thought that eight out of ten of the most followed accounts are musicians.

Meanwhile, the company themselves have remained tight-lipped on the subject.
