Three British students die in South African bus crash

THREE British students were killed and several injured in a bus crash in South Africa.

The students, from a further education college in Leicestershire, were on a field trip when their driver apparently lost control on a bend, leading to the bus overturning.

Two female students died at the scene on the Bulembu road, a few miles from Barberton near Nelspruit. A young male student died later in hospital.

Last night, four casualties remained in intensive care or were in a "highly dependent" state, a British High Commission spokesman said, while another eight were staying at the hospital in Nelspruit overnight for observation. Those admitted to the hospital included the two course lecturers.

British High Commissioner to South Africa Nicola Brewer said about the incident: "My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the three young people who have died in this tragic accident."
