Three arrests in wake of Brazil nightclub fire

THREE arrests have been made in the wake of a nightclub fire that killed more than 230 people in Brazil in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police have declined to disclose the identities of the suspects accused of being involved in a nightclub fire that has claimed at least 232 lives. It is understood that a fourth person is being sought.

According to a Brazilian newspaper, one of the three arrested is understood to be the co-owner of the Kiss nightclub that was set ablaze in the university town of Santa Maria.

Two members of a band who played a show on the night of the fire are thought to be the other people in police custody.

Investigators have speculated that sound insulation rigged to the ceiling was ignited by a flare allegedly lit onstage by a member of the band.

Meanwhile, the funerals of those who died took place earlier today as Brazil declared three days of national mourning.
