Syrians living in Scotland gathered in Glasgow yesterday to protest against the continuing bloodshed.

About 150 people met in Buchanan Street to raise awareness of the siege in Homs and to demonstrate their rejection of a referendum held in the country.

The protest was organised by Mounir Atassi, a dentist who lives in Dundee and has family trapped in the besieged city.He said: “Today is about raising awareness of what’s happening in the country to civilians and journalists.

“We want to show solidarity with those in trouble and also to show our condemnation of the referendum that is being held in Syria today.

“This referendum is a big lie, the country has no constitution, it is run by one family and the regime has no legitimacy.”
