Star Jackson’s bed and note to daddy set for auction

THE furniture and personal items which surrounded Michael Jackson in his final days are to be sold at auction.

The bed where the singer took his last breath is up for sale and note he wrote to motivate himself ahead of a return to the live circuit in London, are among the memorabilia to be sold next month.

The house where Jackson died after being give a fatal dose of an anaesthetic by his personal physician Conrad Murray is also being sold.

“We want to preserve the history of these items,” said Darren Julien, president of Julien’s Auctions, which will sell the various antique furnishings, paintings and sculptures

The price for the Holmby Hills home where Jackson lived with his three children from December 2008 until his death on 25 June, 2009, has not been disclosed but similar homes in the area are listed at $18 million (£11.3m) and more.

A note from one of the children left on a chalkboard in the sprawling kitchen is among items for sale and is expected to fetch more than $400. “I (heart) Daddy. SMILE, it’s for free,” the note reads.

Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter earlier this week. Following the trial, reporters were given a rare insight into Jackson’s final months in a tour of the three-storey home where the star lived.

The bedroom shown in evidence photos at Murray’s criminal trial was considered a “medication room” by Jackson’s lawyers. Murray was found guilty of supplying an insomnia-plagued Jackson with the powerful operating-room anaesthetic propofol to help him sleep as he rehearsed for his comeback.

Jackson maintained an adjacent bedroom that he regarded as his inner sanctum – his personal den.

It is in this second bedroom that the pop star wrote a message to himself on the mirror of an antique armoire. “TRAIN, perfection, March April. FULL OUT May,” it reads. Jackson was to begin his O2 concert run in London in July.

His private bedroom included a bathroom larger than most living rooms and two massive walk-in cupboards.

Among the items for sale from the medication room, where evidence was collected for Murray’s trial, are upholstered chairs smudged with Jackson’s make-up and his bed, which looks out to an expansive backyard surrounded by tall trees.

The home and its decor, which Jackson leased, are reminiscent of Neverland Ranch, Jackson’s famous estate near Santa Barbara, said Martin J Nolan, executive director of Julien’s Auctions.

“He loved it because it was like Neverland,” Mr Nolan said. “It was a very happy place where he spent his final days.”

The 54,885-sq-ft home is also for sale. The house has six bedrooms and ten fireplaces. It also has a wine cellar, fitness centre and formal dining and sitting rooms.

Photos of the house and the items available for sale are featured in a limited-edition auction catalog, which is being sold for $100.
