Splits emerge at top of al–Shabaab

One of al-Shabaab’s leaders lashed out at the group’s brutality against civilians at the weekend, exposing the divides inside the terrorist group.

Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys and his group Hizbul Islam merged with al-Shabaab in 2010. He said: “Killing civilians in the name of Islam is wrong.”
