Sir Paul McCartney ‘will recover from illness’

SIR Paul McCartney is expected to make a full recovery after being taken to hospital in Japan with a viral infection.

The former Beatle, 71, cancelled a number of tour dates earlier this week in South Korea and Japan, but his spokeswoman confirmed that Sir Paul’s treatment was going well.

Perri Cohen released a statement saying: “Since contracting a virus last week that led to the postponement of tour dates, Paul received successful medical treatment at a hospital in Tokyo.

“He will make a complete recovery and has been ordered to take a few days rest.”

She added that Sir Paul - in Asia as part of his world tour - had been ‘extremely moved’ by the messages of support and good wishes he has received from fans across the globe.

Sir Paul cancelled four dates in Japan and one in South Korean capital Seoul.

His next scheduled performance is in Buddy Holly’s hometown of Lubbock, in Texas.
