Pussy Riot verdict questioned

Russia’s presidential human rights council has questioned the two-year jail sentences handed to three members of punk protest band Pussy Riot.

It said criminal law had been used in what was a civil matter. Members suggested Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich should have been considered for suspended sentences.
