President Barack Obama performs slow jam

President Obama has furthered his populist credentials by appearing on NBC’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” comedy show and “slow jamming” the news, a regular feature on the programme.

The president, looking in the camera, talked earnestly about his objection to increasing student loan interest rates on Tuesday night as The Roots, Fallon’s funky studio band, laid down a rhythm. Then the camera cut to Fallon in the foreground, where he pushed the message in his own way.

“Now is not the time to make school more expensive for our young people,” Obama said. Then Fallon: “Ohhhh yeaahh. You should listen to the president.”

“Their position is that students just have to make this rate increase work. Frankly, I’m not buying it,” said Obama over the beat, addressing the Republican party.

Then Fallon responded with “Ummm, umm, umm, the Barack Ness Monster ain’t buyin’ it.”

The episode was recorded during Obama’s appearance at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
