Microscopic pollutant particles in the air have killed 8,600 people prematurely this year in four Chinese cities – Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Xi’an – according to a study by Beijing University and Greenpeace. Cutting the pollutants to World Health Organisation guidelines would reduce deaths by over 80 per cent, the China Daily reported.
