Politician charged after reposting North Korean government tweets

PROSECUTORS in South Korea have indicted a member of the country’ssocial party for allegedly reposting North Korean government tweets onTwitter.

Park Jeong-geun was charged for violating a law that makes it a crime to

praise, sympathise or cooperate with North Korea, the Socialist Party in

Seoul claim.

Officials of the small opposition party say Park re-tweeted the messages

to promote freedom of expression and lampoon the North’s government.

Indictments under South Korea’s anti-North National Security Law have

shot up since a conservative government took power in Seoul in 2008.
