Poets and puppets get UN protection

Mexican mariachi music, Chinese shadow puppetry and poetic duelling from Cyprus have been identified by the United Nations as cultural assets in need of protection.

Also added to Unesco’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list yesterday – in its second year and nearly 250 strong – were Portugal’s fado songs and Jultagi tightrope walking from Korea.
