Plane from Spain mainly off airwaves

The Netherlands scrambled two F-16 fighter jets yesterday to escort a Spanish passenger plane to Schiphol Airport after air traffic controllers could not contact the crew.

Broadcaster NOS spoke by phone with one of the passengers. “Everything is calm,” the passenger said after the plane landed. Airline Vueling said one of its planes had a similar radio problem on the same route last year.
