Nigerian police stations bombed

Two bombs exploded outside police stations in the largest city in Nigeria’s Muslim north last night.

The explosions in Kano bore similarities to attacks by a radical Islamist sect responsible for hundreds of deaths in recent months.

The first bomb detonated at a regional police headquarters, causing unknown injuries, according to an official with the National Emergency Management Agency.

A second blast struck a police station in another neighbourhood, he added.

The explosions occurred as Nigeria faces increasing attacks from a sect known as Boko Haram.

The group has carried out bloody attacks in its campaign to implement strict Sharia law across Nigeria, a multi-ethnic nation of more than 160 million people.
