New Star Wars film title: The Force Awakens

THE title for the seventh installment of the beloved Star Wars franchise has been announced as The Force Awakens.

Star Wars’ official Twitter account revealed the name earlier today after months of debating among fans over what the name would be.

The tweet read: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens has completed principal photography. #StarWarsVII #TheForceAwakens”

Set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, the film sees a number of the original cast reprising their roles, including Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

It is due to be released on December 18, 2015.

It is directed by JJ Abrams.
