Nato chief to stay on an extra year

NATO allies agreed yesterday to extend Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen’s term by a year to 31 July, 2014, keeping him in charge as Nato-led forces wind down their combat role in Afghanistan.

He will remain in the post until a few months before the deadline for Nato to hand over full responsibility for security to Afghans at the end of 2014.
