MH17: Friend of Glenn Thomas ‘heartbroken’

Brent Sharp, from Edinburgh, described his friend as a “smiler”.

Brent, who works for information and electronic company Selex ES, said: “Regardless of what it was in life, Glenn wouldn’t like to see anyone in pain and if he was bringing something good to people then he was serving a purpose he felt good about himself.

“I met Glenn, I think he was working for Five Live at the time, the time I met Glenn was actually the eve Princess Diana passed away.

“Glenn was someone who didn’t like to see people unhappy, he liked to see people enjoying themselves and if he knew he was going away on business or on pleasure he would try to arrange an event, a gathering of people.”

Glenn worked for the World Health Organisation, following his stint at the BBC.

Brent said his friend had a partner and they lived together in Switzerland.

He was believed to be travelling to Melbourne for the International AIDS Conference, due to begin on Sunday.

Brent said his friend always went out of his way to make sure others were happy.

He said: “I’m a little bit of a people watcher myself and I would watch Glenn watching other people and it brought a smile to his face, you could see him work around the room and make sure that everyone was happy.

“I couldn’t think of a better phrase to put to Glenn - he was a smiler.”
