Man tied with shoelaces after trying to open plane

A plane passenger had to be tied up with shoelaces after he tried to open the emergency door mid-flight while ‘screaming and hissing’

Alexander Michael Herrera, 23, was arrested by the FBI when the flight from Alaska landed in Portland, Oregon.

Witnesses reported hearing Hererra make the unusual noises as he ran to the exit and began trying to open it around ten minutes before the plane was due to land.

However, a safety locking mechanism stopped the door from being opened, and he was restrained and tied up using shoelaces and belts before being returned to his seat.

He was then guarded by some passengers who were described as “big guys” until the plane reached its destination, just around nine minutes late.

Herrera was taken into custody upon landing in Oregon on a charge of interfering with a flight crew.
