Man fleeing check drowns in Seine

A YOUNG man fleeing an ID check by French police has drowned in the river Seine.

Police union representative Eric Guyon said yesterday that three young men began to run when officers tried to check their IDs on Monday night in Melun, 30 miles from Paris. Two were caught; the third jumped into the river.
