Joblessness fuels Latvian exodus

Latvia’s population has fallen by 13 per cent over the past decade to 2.07 million as people leave to find work elsewhere.

The country statistics agency said the population of the capital, Riga, fell by more than 14 per cent over the 10-year-period, while the number of people in the eastern region of Latgale, the country’s poorest, declined by 21 per cent.
