Israel hails success of missile test

Israel says it has carried out a successful first test of its upgraded Arrow interceptor, which is designed to destroy the kind of missiles held by Iran and Syria.

Launched from south of Tel Aviv, it manoeuvred over the Mediterranean for 6½ minutes. The US-backed Arrow III will deploy “kamikaze” satellites that track and target ballistic missiles above the earth’s atmosphere, high enough to allow for any chemical, biological or nuclear warheads to disintegrate safely.
