Hip hop star guilty of street race killings

A SOUTH African hip hop star had been convicted of murdering four children he mowed down in his car while drunk and on drugs during a street race in Soweto.

Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and friend Themba Tshabalala were found guilty of killing the four, whom they ploughed into in their Mini Coopers in the Johannesburg suburb in March 2010.

“The death of the deceased was caused by the accuseds’ reckless driving at high speeds while under the influence of drugs and alcohol,” judge Brian Nemavhidi said. The pair have not yet been sentenced but could face life in prison. TV personality Maarohanye appeared emotionless as he heard the verdict, which was broadcast live on television.
