Four tons of cannabis found stashed in lorry

Bulgarian authorities have seized 4,200kg, or four tons, of hashish from a lorry bound for Belgium.

The cannabis, said to be worth more than £16.5 million, was found in 132 packages, stashed among other goods in the Bulgarian-registered truck, during a routine check at the Danube port town of Vidin.

In May, the Balkan country, eager to prove it is fit to join the EU’s Schengen zone of borderless travel and curb rampant organised crime and corruption, seized 67kg of cocaine, destined for the Netherlands.
