Financier behind bank crash jailed

An INDIAN financier has been jailed for ten years for a fraud that helped bankrupt a Thai bank in the mid-1990s and spark a crisis in the financial sector that spread through Asia.

A Thai court found Rakesh Saxena, 59, who siphoned off tens of millions of dollars from the now defunct bank, guilty on five counts of securities fraud.
