Ferry search to resume today

More than 110 people were still missing last night after a ferry sank off Papua New Guinea’s east coast.

Rescuers said they feared many had been trapped inside the stricken vessel.

Searchers found only one survivor yesterday, a day after rescuing 246 people from the MV Rabaul Queen, prime minister Peter O’Neill said.

The ferry sank on Thursday morning in rough seas. Mr O’Neill said bad weather forced rescuers to abandon their search yesterday morning but it would resume today.

He refused to say whether any bodies had been recovered.
