Donald Trump falsely states he has won election and claims it 'is a fraud'

Republican presidential candidate and incumbent in the White House Donald Trump has claimed victory and labelled the election a “fraud” despite legitimate votes still being counted in key swing states.

Speaking in the White House’s East Room to cheers and standing ovations, Mr Trump said he had won various swing states including Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Votes are still being counted in several states, with the final confirmed result of the election unlikely to be confirmed for days.

Mr Trump labelled the election an “embarrassment to our country” and said his team had been set to “celebrate something so beautiful”.

Casting doubt on the credibility and legitimacy of the result – without providing any evidence for the claim – Mr Trump said he would take the result to the Supreme Court.

He said: “I want to thank the American people for their tremendous support.

"A very sad group of people is trying to disenfranchise that group of people and we will not stand for it.

“We were winning everything and all of a sudden it has all fallen off. We were all set to get outside and celebrate something so beautiful, so good, such a success.

"Citizens of this country have come out in record numbers. This is a record, there has never been anything like it to support our incredible movement.”

The Republican candidate said he had won Florida by “a lot” alongside Texas and Ohio.

The president then claimed he had also “won” states which were still counting votes, including key swing states such as North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Michigan, despite thousands of votes still yet to be counted.

He said: "We won states and then all of a sudden they say what has happened to the election, it’s off?

"You know what happened? They knew they couldn’t win, so they said lets go to court. I have been saying this since the day I heard they were going to send out tens of millions of ballots.

"Either they were going to win or if they didn’t win they would take us to court.”

Casting doubt that he will accept the result of the election if the Democratic challenger Joe Biden is declared the winner in coming days, Mr Trump warned that he would take the result to the Supreme Court to challenge the result.

He said: “This is a fraud on the American public, this is an embarrassment to our country.

"We were getting ready to win this election, frankly we did win this election.

"Our goal now is to ensure the integrity for the good of this nation. This is a major fraud on our nation.

“We want the law to be used in a proper manner. We will be going to the US Supreme Court.

"We want all voting to stop. We don’t want them to find any ballots at four in the morning and add them to the list, okay?

"It is a very sad moment.

"We will win this and as far as I’m concerned we already have won it.”
