Death toll from Thai floods hits 602

Thailand’s government has said the death toll from the worst flooding in more than half a century has reached 602.

The floods began in late July, fed by heavy monsoon rains and tropical storms. The floodwaters swamped entire towns as they moved through the country’s central heartland to Bangkok and the Gulf of Thailand.

The government said 17 provinces had been affected by the flooding.
