Deadly clashes over fertiliser plant

ONE person was killed and at least 11 wounded yesterday in clashes between the army and protesters concerned about pollution from a fertiliser plant in northern Egypt.

The ruling military council closed down the plant yesterday after days of demonstrations. A source said protests began over a plan to set up two new fertiliser plants in the area.
