A CRUISE ship arriving at Hamburg produced a novel way of marking the port’s 825th anniversary - by performing a rendition of White Stripes’ mega-hit ‘Seven Nation Army’ on its horn.

The 964ft-long MSC Magnifica, capable of carrying over 3,500 passengers, was welcomed by crowds at the port on 9 May, as over a million people gathered to celebrate Hamburg’s ‘harbour-birthday’.

The ship, launched in 2009, undertakes tours from Southampton to Hamburg via France and the Netherlands, and has three swimming pools, five restaurants, a cinema and a casino on board.

The song, which stayed at the top of the charts for three weeks following its release in 2003, has become a popular ‘anthem’ for a variety of organisations, including German football side Bayern Munich - who play the song after every goal they score at their Allianz Arena ground - and Australian side Melbourne Victory.
