Brazil: Woman mugged on TV while discussing crime

A WOMAN giving a television interview about rising crime rates in Brazil’s capital became the victim of an attempted mugging midway through the broadcast.

Brazilian channel TV Globo was filming a news segment in which the woman was complaining about the lack of police near Rio de Janeiro’s main train station.

The images of the interview conducted on Wednesday by the station were posted on its G1 internet news portal.

In the clip, the woman is approached by the would-be mugger from behind and rips off what appears to be a gold necklace.

The thief then flees down a busy street while evading oncoming traffic, and the reporter is seen giving chase.

The attempted theft was to no avail, as the culprit dropped the necklace, which was returned to the woman.
