Bombs kill 14 near Iraqi restaurant

Two bombs exploded in swift succession, killing 14 people, yesterday in the ethnically-mixed Iraqi city of Tal Afar, a hotbed of insurgency that teetered on the edge of civil war.

Mayor Abdul Aal Abbas al-Obedi said a car parked outside a popular restaurant exploded in the early afternoon.

As people rushed to the scene to help, a suicide bomber in the crowd detonated his explosives belt, Mr Obedi said.
