Back to the Future villain ‘inspired by Donald Trump’

A BACK to the Future screenwriter has confirmed suspicions that baddie Biff Tannen may have been based on a certain US presidential candidate.

Bob Gale, screenwriter of all three Back to the Future films, told the Daily Beast that he and his colleagues spotted the similarities between grown-up bully Biff Tannen and Donald Trump while filming Back to the Future Part II.

As the world celebrated Back to the Future Day on 21 October 2015 – the date to which main characters Marty McFly and Emmett ‘Doc’ Brown travel to during Back to the Future Part II – several fans of the film on Twitter remarked on the similarities.

In the film, 2015 Biff is portrayed as vindictive, rich and only cares about himself. The character also encourages the women in his family to undergo plastic surgery procedures.

While chatting to The Daily Beast, Gale said: “There’s a scene where Marty confronts Biff in his office and there’s a huge portrait of Biff on the wall behind Biff, and there’s one moment where Biff kind of stands up and he takes exactly the same pose as the portrait? Yeah.”

When Back to the Future Part II was released in 1989, Mr Trump was 43-years-old and played a key role in his father’s real estate company, but would file for business bankruptcy just two years later. Mr Trump is one of the frontrunners for the Republican nomination for the US presidential race.
