Irish international Stokes is accused of injuring the performer following an incident in Buck Whaley’s nightclub in 2013.

The former Hibs and Falkirk striker appeared in court in the Irish capital this morning, less than 24 hours after turning out for Celtic in their 1-0 defeat at home to Hamilton Accies.

It was alleged at an earlier court appearance that Stokes, 26, had headbutted the Elvis impersonator at the club in the city’s Leeson Street during a row over a spilled drink.

The case was considered too serious to be dealt with by a district court, and the footballer was sent forward for trial before judge and jury at a higher court.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court today scheduled the trial - expected to last for three days - for May 11.

Stokes, who was born in Dublin, was remanded on continuing bail and excused from a further court appearance this week due to work commitments.
