Airports closed as volcano alert rises

A LIGHT spewing of ash amid renewed rumblings in the Nevado del Ruiz volcano has prompted Colombian authorities to close four airports and evacuate 500 people.

Government geologists raised the volcano’s alert level to orange, meaning an eruption is probable in days or weeks.
