Acid attack on four Indian female teachers

FOUR sisters had acid thrown on them as they walked home from work, police in northern India have revealed.

The women, all in their 20s and teachers at the same college, suffered serious burns and required treatment in hospital.
Officers said the motive for the attack on Tuesday in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, about 185 miles north of New Dehli, was unclear.

Director-general of police Arun Kumar said no arrest had been made and the women had yet to be interviewed. In recent months, there has been growing outrage across India over assaults on women. The fatal gang rape of a young woman on a New Delhi bus in December spurred the government to pass new laws for attacks on women, including a ten-year sentence for acid attacks.
