$500 bounty on terrorists, dead or alive

SOMALIA has set a $500 (£311) bounty on the head of members of the al-Qaeda-linked militant group al-Shabaab.

Mogadishu mayor Mohamud Ahmed Nur urged citizens: “Consider every al-Shabaab is just like a commodity that will earn you cash.”

The bounty will be paid for every “captured or killed terrorist”, Mr Nur said.

Al-Shabaab fighters, who still control much of Somalia, have been waging a systematic campaign against government forces as well as attacking African Union peacekeepers patrolling the capital. They withdrew from Mogadishu in August after the peacekeepers arrived.
