1.7 million have no power after snow

More than 1.7 million people are still without electricity in the north-eastern United States, three days after an early snowstorm snapped branches and toppled trees across the region.

The wet, heavy snow brought down an extensive network of wiring, including long-distance transmission lines and wires supplying individual homes.
