‘World-class’ treatment of staff gives council gold

The city council has become the first local authority in Scotland to be awarded a Gold Standard for the way it treats its staff.

The decision by Investors in People to reward the council also puts it in the top three per cent of organisations in Scotland that take part in the scheme.

Officials say that the award represents is a sign of a “truly cutting edge” organisation.

City leader Jenny Dawe said: “When we first came into administration, I wanted the council to be an organisation that looks after its staff well and has the kind of leadership and consultation that is in line with the Investors in People, so it is really good that we have achieved that.

“It is easy for people to knock council staff, but recognition like this should make people aware that they are doing a good job and that, as an employer, we are doing our best to ensure people working here are treated well.”

A report to be considered by the council’s policy and strategy committee next Tuesday states that the council is committed to “continuous improvement” and action plans are to be developed to ensure that recommendations within feedback from Investors in People are implemented.
