Woollen mill catches fire

FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze at a disused woollen mill in Midlothian yesterday.

Crews were called to the Laidlaw and Fairgrieve plant in Dalkeith after a fire broke out in the workshop area at about 2.30pm.

Firefighters took about an hour to bring the fire under control, with four crews using two hoses to prevent it spreading.

It is not yet known what caused the blaze.

Laidlaw and Fairgrieve closed down in June 2000 with the loss of 190 jobs in Dalkeith and 100 in Selkirk.
