Energy services giant Wood Group today announced its first deal in the UK petrochemicals sector.
The Aberdeen-based group has struck a five-year agreement to provide services to Valero Energy’s Pembroke refinery in south-west Wales.
Under the deal, which has the option for a one-year extension, Wood Group Industrial Services (WGIS) will deliver surface preparation and protective coatings for the plant, which was acquired by US fuels maker Valero from rival Chevron in 2011 and has the capacity to handle 270,000 barrels a day, including 220,000 barrels of crude oil.
WGIS secured more than $300 million (£207m) of new contracts last year and managing director Hugh Pelham said: “WGIS has the broad capabilities and experience that positions us well to further extend our expertise into the downstream process and energy market.
“This is demonstrated by this contract win with Valero Energy, where our focus will be working in partnership with our client to deliver effective and efficient services to enhance the integrity of the asset.”
