TWO women – one in her 20s and another in her 80s – have suffered serious injuries in a crash in the Highlands.

The emergency services were called to the scene of the two-car accident on A9 near Delny, Invergordon on Sunday afternoon.

Police said a woman driving a blue Ford Fiesta and a female passenger in a blue Honda civic were taken to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. The Honda driver, a man, received minor injuries.

Firefighters assisted in freeing the injured women.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident to contact them.

They are also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the cars beforehand.

They also want to speak to the driver of a light blue or silver Audi A3 which may have been in the area at the time.

The accident happened just before 1.30pm, closing the busy trunk road for over four hours.
