Woman's island death: man held

AN ELDERLY woman who died following an incident at her home on a Scottish island was named by police yesterday.

Mary Rose McNeil, 73 – who was known in her neighbourhood as Moira – died at the property in Broadcroft Lane, Rothesay, on the Isle of Bute, on Saturday.

Police officers were called out at around 1:30pm on Saturday to reports of a woman seriously injured after an "incident" at her home.

A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death and was expected to appear at Rothesay Sheriff Court today.
