Woman thwarts shop raid

A WOULD-BE thief made off empty handed after struggling with a female shop worker.

Police said the 37-year-old woman was left “very shaken” but required no medical treatment after the incident in the Wine Rack in Broomburn Drive, Newton Mearns.

The male robber threatened the shop worker with a knife on Wednesday and demanded that she hand over money and cigarettes.

The woman refused, and in the ensuing struggle she fell to the ground and hurt her hip.

Strathclyde Police said the suspect ran from the shop and got into a silver-coloured car.
