A woman has been raped in a lane in Edinburgh’s Old Town.
The 44-year-old is alleged to have been attacked about 3am today in Fleshmarket Close, which runs off the High Street.
Police Scotland have appealed for any witnesses to the attack.
A polices spokesperson said a man had been detained in connection with the incident.
Fleshmarket Close is a narrow lane running between the Royal Mile and Market Street.
It is a central location in one of author Ian Rankin’s best known Inspector Rebus novels, which is named after the lane.
