Woman impaled on railing

A WOMAN was taken to hospital after falling from a window and becoming impaled on railings yesterday.

Paramedics were called to Orwell Place in Edinburgh's Dalry area at around 3.40pm, where they found the 67-year-old with her left thigh impaled.

A rescue crew was called in to cut the railings and she was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with the bars still attached to her leg, it is understood. Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said it used hydraulic cutting gear to free the pensioner.
