Woman dies in hospital after two-car crash on Lewis

A WOMAN who was cut free from a two-car crash on the A857 Stornoway to Barvas road on the island of Lewis has died in hospital, police said.

The accident happened around 3pm yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the scene and firefighters had to cut the roof off one of the cars to release a man and a woman trapped inside.

The pair were taken to Western Isles Hospital with serious injuries.

The woman died this morning.

Another woman who was driving the other car was also taken to hospital and is said to be in a stable condition.

A spokesman for Northern Constabulary said a diversion is in place the crash scene is investigated.

Officers also want to speak to any witnesses to the collision.
